La hija de Rappaccini

La hija de Rappaccini

Dr. Rappaccini isolates his daughter Beatriz in an exotic garden overflowing with remarkable, but deadly, flowers. After glimpsing her beauty from his apartment window, a young medical student falls in love – but a dark secret threatens their romance. Rappaccini has been testing his toxic botanicals on Beatriz, and she has become poisonous to the touch.

Written by composer Daniel Catán and librettist Juan Tovar in 1983, La hija de Rappaccini is full of timely threads like scientific experimentation and love at a distance. La hija makes its Chicago premiere in a special production filmed in the world-renowned Field Museum.

Levi Hernandez, Megan Pachecano, and Daniel Montenegro star in this Crystal Manich production, which also features performances by Curtis Bannister, Jenny Schuler, Rachel Blaustein, Emily Birsan, and Morgan Middleton. Enrico Lopez-Yañez conducts in his COT debut.
